Research and submit applications

Get an I-20 form from the program 

A school or program will issue you a Form I-20 once you have been accepted into it. To apply for a student visa, you must submit this form.

Pay the SEVIS fee

To activate your Form I-20, you must pay a fee to the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP).

Make an appointment for an interview

• The CPT job offer must be in the major of study. Any student participating in CPT for 12 months or more will not be eligible to benefit from the OPT option.
• OPT may be taken  before or after completion of the program in which the student is enrolled. Some students graduating with a science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) degree may be eligible for a 24-month OPT extension.
